Fall is SLOWWWWLY Approaching!

So fall is slowwwwwly approaching and I can’t help but get excited for my favorite season! I know, I know, I’m already talking about fall but I’m just so excited. I mean, it’s August and school is about to start (not for me of course) which means that football season is about to start which also means that fall is almost here! Yayyyyy!!
I can’t wait to be able to wear my favorite items in my closet: sweaters, scarves, and boots. My fall color obsession already: Mustard and navy.

I mean how cute is that!?! I just can’t get enough of the color combo. We’ll see if my love of these colors holds on for when the chilly weather comes…I’m thinking I’ll have more colors to add!
My other favorite thing about fall……..FOOTBALL!! I may not pay a ton of attention to the game but tailgating, dressing up in your favorite team’s gear and hanging out with friends while having a good time watching the game is just so exciting and fun! Which definitely makes the work weeks go by slow…gosh I can’t wait for all of it! 🙂
What are you favorite fall items to wear? What is your favorite thing about fall?

13.1 Miles of Music

Before I ran my half marathon I searched and searched for different songs to include on my playlist. I have to listen to upbeat and fast paced music in order to stay motivated to run. Throughout my hour of searching I came out with only a few songs that I knew would work for me which was a little disappointing…hey not everyone is as picky as me I suppose. So I gathered up some random music that I knew would help motivate me throughout my run. I thought I would share it in case someone else decides they want to search for a playlist and has the same taste as me! 🙂

Shake it Out – Florence & The Machines

The Other Side – Jason DeRulo

Turn Up The Music – Chris Brown ft. Rihanna

Turnin’ Me On – Keri Hilson

Use Somebody – Kings of Leon

Va Va Voom – Nicki Minaj

22 – Taylor Swift

Sex On Fire – Kings of Leon

SexyBack – Justin Timberlake

Raise Up – Petey Pablo (Throwback!!)

Ridin’ Solo – Jason DeRulo

Safe and Sound – Capital Cities

Little Talks – Of Monsters and Men

Mr. Brightside – Killers (one of my faves)

No Diggity (No Doubt) – Blackstreet

Love Somebody – Maroon 5

Gone, Gone, Gone – Phillip Phillips

Don’t You Worry Child – Swedish House Mafia

Brave – Sara Bareilles

Bad Girlfriend – Theory of a Deadman

These are just some of my favorites out of the bunch. I have about 170 songs on the playlist and I doubt you’ll want to read through all of them! Either way, all these songs got the job done and had me motivated the whole 13.1 miles of running. Some people might have caught me dancing, and sometimes singing (out loud), while running. Hey, you gotta do whatever works, right?

What’s on your workout playlist?

Rock N Roll Half Marathon = SUCCESS

Well folks I did it! I completed my first half marathon. Words cannot express the feeling you feel after you cross the finish line. It was such a HUGE accomplishment for me and I’m so glad that my friend, Jessica, talked me into doing it. I’m also really glad I got to experience this with two of my best friends.

(Getting ready to head to the starting line)

The start of the race I was super nervous. I could barely sleep the night before because my heart was pounding so hard that it felt like it was beating out of my chest. The idea of the day actually being here and the reality of actually running 13.1 miles was so overwhelming. I didn’t change one thing about my routine because so many people told me not to. Let me tell you, I’m glad I didn’t. The run was a little difficult as it was I couldn’t even imagine changing something to make it worse.

(Waiting at our corral)

The closer we got to the race site the more and more nervous I became. I mean, it’s 13.1 MILES for goodness sake! I’ve never ran that far in my life and never thought I actually would want to. When we arrived at the race site we made a bathroom stop (which didn’t help for me…if you know what I mean), checked our bag, and then headed to our corral. The atmosphere while waiting in the corral was nuts. There were so many people and they all had positive attitudes. It made me more excited rather than nervous, although I was still super nervous! As we got closer and closer to the starting line Jessica, Kati and I popped in our headphones and started our music and told each other good luck! Then we heard the gun shot and we were off.

We decided that we were going to try and stay together but if we ended up separating we would meet at the end. We stayed together throughout the first couple miles but after mile 3 I decided to slow down because I knew I would not be able to finish if I kept up at their pace. The first 5 miles were a breeze and then we hit a stretch of a straight path (which I hate because it’s so boring). Miles 6-9 were brutal. The sun was beating down on us and we were going straight for 3 miles. It felt like it was never ending. When mile 9 hit I thought it would get a little better but then my knee popped. From then on it was a challenge. I really, really, really didn’t want to walk at all but my knee was hurting so bad that I had to walk through the water station. After that I picked up my pace again but another mile came and gone and I was still in lots of pain. Right when I was going to walk again a girl running right next to me looked at me and said “We are not walking! We will go 15 minutes a mile before we walk!” which motivated me to not stop. I did end up going VERY slow but at least I didn’t stop.

Coming up on mile 11 I realized that I was almost done with my first half marathon and how much of an accomplishment it was. I just kept thinking that I never thought I would do this and was so happy I did. I was so proud of myself. Once I hit 12 miles I picked up my pace and basically limped my way through the finish line. I had so many feelings as I crossed that finish line. I was so proud of myself, but not happy with my time. I’m glad I got to do this with two of my best friends. I’m glad I pushed myself to be able to run 13 miles. The list goes on.

After the race I mentioned how I probably would never do another one again but after really thinking about it, I want to do another one. I want to beat my time and I want to have that wonderful feeling of accomplishment again. All my hardwork paid off for that one moment where I felt like I was invincible. Cheesy, I know but you do a half marathon and then tell me how you feel. Now there is no way I will ever do a full marathon. I could not imagine 13 miles only being my halfway point, but I would definitely do another half. I know Jessica and Kati have already talked about doing another one and now I’m fully onboard to do another one as well. This time I will train harder and push myself more!

I promised you all more pictures once I received them so here they are. Our photographer did a great job and I wish I could go back to this day and relive it all over again. The best day of my life. Best day of my life so far! 🙂

Getting back to normal

Wedding, done. Honeymoon, done. Now that we don’t have planning to do and stress to have we are now getting back to our normal routine. Which means, I’ll finally be able to get into a routine of blogging on a regular basis! Woo hoo!

The last 5 months have definitely flown by. Once we sent out our Save the Dates everything seemed to be set at high speed. Everything turned out great and I am so thankful to now be apart of two amazing families and great friends. Our day was very special and I wouldn’t change a thing about it.

We had a great photographer who took absolutely amazing photos and a group of two amazing videographers. I can’t wait to see what they put together for our video. I got a chance to pop over to our photographer, David’s, website and saw a couple of our photos from the big day.

I can’t wait to see more. The suspense is killing me.

The honeymoon was amazing as well. I have never been outside of the country before and for my first time it was such an experience. I absolutely want to go back but there are a few things that are must haves for next time. And next time we will make it a friends trip so we have some company with us!

After getting back Saturday we got to relax and catch up on the sleep we’ve missed over the last 3 weeks. We unpacked all the gifts we’ve received (thank you to everyone) and cleaned up our apartment. Now it’s definitely feeling like home again. Getting back to work has been a challenge though. Being off for a whole week and a half definitely makes it hard to get back to a normal work routine. Hopefully by next week I’ll be feeling back to normal.

I start getting back into a workout routine tonight as well. My half marathon is quickly approaching and I haven’t been as dedicated as I should be. I told myself it’s crunch time and I need to push myself and work hard at getting back at it. Wish me luck on my 3 miles tonight…after two weeks off this could be a little bit of a challenge.

Emotional Tuesday I Suppose…

So I’ve been away for the past three months…my sincere apologies. I’ve been super busy with wedding planning, finding an apartment, moving into that apartment, and many things in between. I know that shouldn’t be an excuse but life does get in the way of things sometimes.

I have slowly realized that I make too many excuses as to why I don’t do things. My new year’s resolution this year was to get rid of can’ts and make more cans. Before the year started my friend Jessica mentioned how the three of us (Kati, Jessica and myself) should sign up for a half marathon. We all live in different places and it would be a great first girls trip. Jessica has never been an avid runner but she wanted something to make her work hard and get in shape before her wedding in March. I’ve always liked running and the most I’ve ever ran was a 10k. After careful consideration, and a huge discount deal, we all decided to sign up for the Rock n Roll Chicago Half Marathon. I’ve heard many great reviews about it and I think it will be a lot of fun and will definitely be something I can cross off the bucket list. I would have never thought of actually doing a half marathon but turning the can’t into a can made me change my decision. After signing up for the half I couldn’t stop myself from signing up for more wacky races with my friends around the city.

I have learned over the past few months that life goes by wayyy too quickly and if you don’t do things that will make you happy then you’re just going to regret it as life goes on. It literally feels like it was January just yesterday! With everything that I’ve been working on the past couple months it’s really made the time go by super fast. I mean, mine and Kyle’s wedding is literally just around the corner! Only 73 more days!! We’ve been in the city a little over a year now and it seems like just yesterday we moved.

The marriage preparation leader said a really great thing this weekend. “If you don’t make yourself happy, then you can’t make you marriage happy. The more unhappy you are with yourself, the less energy you bring to your relationship.” I wasn’t very happy with myself last year. I was a debbie downer, I wasn’t very consistent with working out, and I didn’t keep in touch with my friends as much as I should have. Realizing this has made me want to change  that this year and from now on. So that is what I have done so far!

Yeah everyone has their ups and downs but I would rather have way more ups than downs and I would rather love myself and love others than to hate myself and ruin my relationship with others. I don’t think many people see how much that can effect your life…it’s definitely something to think about…

Jumping on the Survey Bandwagon! – Christmas Survey

How was everyone’s weekend?! Mine was filled with fun and busyness! More on that later because I have an awesome Christmas survey to share with you guys! 🙂

After reading Ashley’s blog the other day I got in the same Christmas spirit and decided to do the survey she completed!! 🙂 I mean what’s better than more holiday fun? Especially, Christmas fun!

1. Favorite Christmas Album/CD/Song?

Michael Buble is definitely my favorite CD!! His voice is absolutely breath taking!!

2. Run on Christmas morning or take the day off?

I will probably be taking the day off. The gym will be closed back home and we’ll be going to visit my dad at the fire station since he has to work that day!

3. What do you usually eat on Christmas morning?

On Christmas morning my mom normally makes cinnamon rolls! They’re delicious! I don’t eat much of them though because I save my stomach for lunch when she makes her homemade beef and noodles! YUMMMM!!

4. Favorite holiday or Christmas tradition?

We’ll be back in Iowa for Christmas this year. With my family we always go to my Dad’s fireman church on Christmas Eve and then go over to my aunt’s house to hang out and have a few laughs and maybe play a few games! A good quality family time.

Christmas with Kyle’s family will be during New Year’s weekend. At Kyle’s parent’s on New Year’s day the guys will watch the bowl games and the girls will have a relaxing day. The first New Year’s I spent with Kyle’s family I didn’t know you ate Pork and sauerkraut on New Year’s day for good luck. It was new to me but I’m glad it was brought to my attention because I love it! I would say that is probably one of my favorite things we do as a tradition on New Year’s day.

5. Real tree, fake tree or no tree?

I’m a huge real tree lover! Although, this year we’ll have a fake tree and probably a few years after this. My family always has a real tree and I love the smell. When I walk in the door to my parent’s house the pine smell fills the room. It’s one of my favorite Christmas smells.

6. Christmas pajamas, yay or nay?

Even though I don’t own a pair of Christmas pajamas, I do love them! It’s definitely something we will be making a tradition with our kids! 🙂

7. Where do you spend the holidays? Your own house, your parent’s house, extended family, in-laws, friends?

We switch back and forth between families every other year. This year we’ll be with my family in Iowa on Christmas but we’ll definitely be all over the place during the five days, seeing extended family and friends.

8. Food that you always have during the holiday season? Favorite Christmas food/treat?

For Christmas at my family’s house we have beef and noodles! My mom makes the best beef and noodles! When we see my mom’s side of the family we always have prime rib. My grandpa makes the best prime rib. It’s so good! We also love to try new recipes for our sides and I love trying all the different things. They always turn out soooo good!

9. Open presents all at once, or take turns? Stockings, yes or no?

We take turns opening presents. My dad likes to videotape us opening each present so we can look back on it someday. We definitely do stockings! We save those for last and the elves are always so good to us! 😉

10. Favorite Christmas movie.

My favorite Christmas movies would have to be Polar Express, Elf & Christmas Vacation.

My favorite holiday movie would he The Holiday! It’s such a cute movie and I love the little girls British accents! 🙂

Well that was fun! Feel free to take the survey too! 🙂
